Welcome to Beautiful Boscastle! Wherever we go and whatever we do, we have some impact on the environment and community. By making positive choices during your visit, you can help to look after Cornwall and this special area ensuring that it retains everything that is special about it for your next visit. You can have an impact right here at Valency!
Many of you love to visit here for the stunning scenery and to revive your spirits. Let’s keep it like this by protecting Cornwall and many other valuable environments, so that our future generations have sufficient resources to survive and beauty to enjoy.

At Valency we are committed to running our business in as sustainable a manner as possible. We try to make our guests comfortable and to balance this with ensuring everyone’s health, safety and comfort whilst making efficient use of environmental resources. It’s often the little things we can all do that help to make a difference to the big things.

Planet Earth has been subject to the phenomena of natural change over millions of years. We, as humans, have only been living on Earth for a mere speck of that time. Recent studies and the media have highlighted that our activities, initially in the name of survival but increasingly in the name of progress have had a significant negative impact on the pace of this change. Already many species of flora and fauna are succumbing to these changes. Remember ‘Man is merely another species!’

We do not know what the ultimate time frame for mankind is but it is becoming clear that, with thought and care, we can influence the state of our planet for our future generations.

Our future is at risk unless we begin national and local action now. Can you be the kind of tourist that helps nurture and preserve the very things you came here to enjoy?

Please look at the information we provide to help you. Thank You

1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
In Cornwall we take our recycling very seriously, as we hope you do at home! Say no to packaging where possible, especially plastic bags. You will find recycling banks in most main car parks across the area. In Cornwall we work hard to recycle all we can. Please help us by making use of the recycling bag in your room.
2. Reduce traffic: walk, cycle or use public transport
Walking and cycling are great ways to see the area without adding to traffic. Use public transport if you need to travel to your start point, but try exploring near to where you are staying - there are some fantastic places to see right on your doorstep! There are more and more fully accessible routes becoming available, ensuring access for all, too. Ask us or the staff at the new Visitor Centre about the regular buses that pass through the village. We keep up to date timetables and many walking leaflets in the conservatory.
3. Stay Local, Eat Local, Buy Local, See Local
Support local producers and services - this way your visit has a real benefit to the communities of Cornwall. And you get to see and taste the real quality that Cornwall offers. Visit Farmers Markets, farm shops, village stores, pubs and cafes. Much of our distinctive culture is evident in the hundreds of community events that happen throughout the year and are well worth supporting – and the food and drink is simply fantastic. Look out for the popular Boscastle Food Arts and Crafts Festival in October. We aim to buy our food and products as locally as possible to ensure freshness, quality and to ensure livelihoods for local people.
4. Chill out – switch off....
Enjoy a fabulous, light touch holiday.....switch off radiators, lights and televisions etc when not needed. Avoid running taps unnecessarily; make sure that only towels that need washing are laundered; every single effort helps protect and enhance our beautiful environment. It takes a moment and it’s all worth it!
5. Follow the Countryside Code: respect – protect – enjoy.
The Beach Code and Countryside Code reminds visitors to protect plants and animals; take litter away; leave gates and property as you find them; keep dogs under close control; consider other people and users when visiting the countryside.

Enjoy your holiday! Thank you!
